Home Remedies that can help prevent vomiting during pregnancy



Pregnancy is a beautiful and crucial phase in every woman’s life. And morning sickness is a natural phenomenon that affects mostly all pregnant women. While some women sail through pregnancy with ease, for many it can be a really difficult time due to nausea and vomiting. Vomiting, also known as morning sickness, is a normal part of pregnancy, especially during the first three months. The exact cause of nausea and vomiting during pregnancy is still not known. However, it is believed that rapid hormonal changes in the body may cause changes in the stomach’s muscle contraction and relaxation patterns, leading to nausea and vomiting. Other contributing factors include certain odors, foods, fatigue, stress, anxiety, sensitive stomach, and vitamin or mineral deficiencies. Morning sickness can be very unpleasant and can interfere with your daily routine; but you can easily deal with them with simple home remedies and a few lifestyle changes.

Some home remedies that can help stop vomiting during pregnancy include:
Ginger: Many studies have found that ginger is one of the best natural remedies for vomiting during pregnancy. Specific studies have also explored the possibility of giving ginger tablets to patients. As a measure of caution, remember to use natural ginger, as there is no regulation on the amount of ginger in the capsule. Always speak to your doctor before you opt for a ginger based product.
Acupressure: An acupressure wristband that is easily found in the market can also help reduce nausea and prevent vomiting. These bands are made on the same principles of the ancient healing art of acupressure and are worn on the wrist. By applying pressure on specific points on the wrist, nausea and vomiting can be controlled.
Water: Drink lots of water. It has often been found that morning sickness can lead to dehydration. Conversely, dehydration can also induce nausea. Do not drink too much  water at once, make it gradual; ideally drink 2 liters of water a day, at the very least. Drink only water, as cold and sweetened drinks might worsen the symptoms.
Stay Away From Stress: Sometimes, emotional triggers like stress can result in morning sickness. Keep calm and try to understand your triggers and look to avoid things that might trigger them.
Lemon: Lemon can also help deal with vomiting during pregnancy. Its soothing smell has a natural calming effect on the body that can reduce nausea and prevent vomiting. Plus, the vitamin C in lemon is good for a pregnant woman as well as the unborn baby. You can squeeze a piece of fresh lemon into a glass of water, add some honey to it and drink. Alternatively, you can also put lemon essential oil unto a handkerchief and sniff it.
Rest: One of the biggest signs of morning sickness is your body showing the need to rest. Make sure you don’t over exert yourself as this is a sensitive time. You should get plenty of rest and make sure you sleep well. Tiredness only aggravates the symptoms of morning sickness.
Eat Small But Regular Meals: Binging on food isn’t the smartest thing to do as it may have adverse effects. High carbohydrate foods like bread and crackers are good for you. Sometimes, sickness aggravates if you skip meals. Eating regular food in the right dose helps ease the symptoms of morning sickness. You can also consider a cold meal, as nausea can be induced by the smell of food as well.
Take Regular Walks: Walking and light exercises are very helpful during pregnancy. Walking helps dilute the progesterone hormone throughout your system, which is one of the reasons behind morning sickness. Also, walking helps digestion, thus reducing the chances of vomiting. Plus, when you take a walk in the open area, the fresh air will help you feel better. After eating your dinner, go for a walk for 15 to 20 minutes daily in the open area. If you cannot go outside,
walk around your house.
Peppermint: One of the best home remedies for vomiting during early pregnancy is peppermint. This herb brings down core temperature, calms the mind and suppresses the urge to drink something cold. You can either chew on some peppermint leaves or get your hands on some sugar-free chewing gums. If you don’t like chewing gum, you can brew some peppermint tea. Alternatively, you can sniff some peppermint essential oil. However, be careful while you do this as the strong smell of the oil can aggravate morning sickness.

Morning sickness is normal during pregnancy as it does not affect your baby nor has any long-term effects on you. It is temporary, but the feeling can be frustrating, why not follow this home remedies to ease morning sickness. Seek medical help if vomiting is severe and it becomes difficult for you to control.
