Health Benefits of Brown Rice

Why Brown Rice? Before white rice went through the refining process, it at one time looked exactly like the brown stuff. Brown, unlike white rice, still has the side hull and bran. The side hulls and brans provide “natural wholeness” to the grain and are rich in proteins, thiamine, calcium, magnesium, fibre, and potassium. For those trying to lose weight or those suffering from diabetes, it can prove a healthful staple given its low glycemic rating which helps reduce insulin spikes.

Rich in Selenium
It is rich in selenium which reduces the risk for developing common illnesses such as cancer, heart disease and arthritis.

High in Manganese
One cup of brown rice provides 80% of our daily manganese requirements. Manganese helps the body synthesize fats. Manganese also benefits our nervous and reproductive systems.

Rich in Naturally-Occurring Oils
Naturally occurring oils are beneficial for the body as these healthful fats help normalize cholesterol levels.

Promotes Weight Loss
The fibre content of brown rice keeps bowel function at its peak since it makes digestion that much easier. It is the perfect addition to the daily diet for those seeking bowel regularity. In addition, it also makes the tummy feel full which translates to smaller meal portions.

Considered Whole Grain
Brown rice is considered a whole grain since it hasn’t lost its “wholeness” through the refinement process. Whole grains are proven to reduce the build-up of arterial plaque and reduce the risk of heart disease and high cholesterol.

Rich in Anti-Oxidants
This is one of the best kept secrets regarding brown rice. We usually associate anti-oxidant rich foods with blueberries, strawberries and other fruits and vegetables. The antioxidant capacity of brown rice is right up there with these super stars.

High in Fibre
It is high in fibre and on top of the list for foods that can help prevent colon cancer. This can be attributed to the high levels of fibre naturally contained in brown rice. These fibres attach to substances that cause cancer as well as to toxins in the body, thus eliminating them and keeping them from attaching to the colon wall.

A Slow-Release Sugar
Brown rice helps stabilize blood sugar levels; therefore, it’s an excellent food choice for those suffering from diabetes. Studies show that those who consume half cup of brown rice daily reduce their risks of developing diabetes by 60%. On the other hand, those who consume white rice regularly increase their chances of developing diabetes one hundred-fold.

Perfect Baby Food
Brown rice cereal or even just by itself is the perfect baby’s first food due to the dense natural nutrition and fibre it contains. This is a much better choice than refined white rice cereal products, as rapidly growing babies and toddlers require nutrient rich diets to help maintain rapid growth cycles.

Candida Yeast Infections
Brown rice is the perfect adjunct for candida yeast infection treatments, given that high glycemic and otherwise sugary/starchy foods are prohibited during most candida treatment protocols. Its natural digestibility coupled with the high fibre content can help sensitive digestive systems heal from an overgrowth of candida organisms. Finally, it is simply delicious and a fantastic staple for both vegetarian and vegan diets. It can be used as a white rice alternative in most vegetarian recipes and provides a full, rich and somewhat nutty flavour. Its flour can be used for vegetarian pancakes, breads and other baked foods. All in all, it is clearly the healthy choice.

Fruits that can cause death in children when eaten together

Fruits contain digestive enzymes, which clean out the residue left from the previously eaten food. Within an hour, the fruits travel through the digestive tract and they should not be eaten with any other food group. Even though fruits are good for overall health, there are some combinations that can be fatal. A lot of studies showed that eating more than two fruits at the same time can cause discomfort in adults, while in infants, it can be fatal. So, if you don’t want to make a terrible mistake, do not feed your child with a combination of the fruits listed below:

Guava and Banana: Acids and gas are produced in the stomach so you feel nauseous and heaviness, plus headache and stomach ache.

Vegetables and fruits: since fruits have more sugar, vegetables cannot be digested properly, so by staying in your stomach, the fruit ferments and produces more toxins, causing various diseases and ailments such as headache, stomach pains, diarrhoea and severe infection.

Banana and pudding: the result of this combination creates stomach heaviness in the case of adults, as it slows your mind and increases the production of toxins; but in the case of infants, can be fatal.

Papaya and lemon: this combination makes you develop anaemia and problems with your haemoglobin. Avoid it at all costs and please do not risk giving it to your children.

Orange and Carrot: Although this combination is very popular in places where they sell natural juice, intake of both things at once produces heartburn, excess bile reflux and heartburn, as well as damage to the renal system, which is the origin of more serious diseases.

Pineapple and milk: whether milk or yogurt, thanks to the presence of bromelain, it causes the body to become intoxicated. You feel nausea, stomach gas, headache, stomach pain and you may develop an infection or experience diarrhoea. Now, imagine what that might do to babies.

Orange and Milk: This is a very unhealthy combination. Orange makes your stomach unable to process the starches present in the cereal. In addition, the mixture of orange juice and milk in the stomach inhibits digestion, especially in infants.
