The Headies awards, formerly known as the Hip Hop World Awards, was established in 2006 by the Hip Hop World Magazine of Nigeria to recognize outstanding achievements in the Nigeria music industry.
The 2018 Headies awards, which held its 12th edition on 5th of May, 2018 at the Eko Convention Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos State, had Davido winning the artist of the year award. The ‘Fia’ crooner also won Best Pop Single of the year as well as Song of the year awards.
Star boy, also known as Wizkid, won two awards in different categories comprising Viewer’s Choice, Best Music Video and Best R&B and Hip Pop album awards.
Simi was not left out in the big moment as she also bagged awards in the category of Best R&B single, Best Recording of the year and Album of the year.
Other Celebrities who also received awards at the Headies 2018 include;
Small Doctor, for the 2018 Best Street Hip Hop artiste; MI, for Best Rap Single; Teni, for Rookie of the Year; Reminisce, for Best Rap Allbum; 2face Idibia, for the best Reggae Dance Hall single award for his song 'Holy holy'.
Others include Omawumi, for Best Female Vocal Performance; Praiz, for Best Male Vocal Performance; Nasty C, for Africa Artiste of the year; Aramide, for Best Alternative Song; Tiwa Savage, for Best Collabo and
Yemi Alade for Best Performer.
The 12th edition of the Headies Awards had a compilation of music from July 2016 to December 2017.
This year’s special edition of the Headies Awards was tagged: the C.A.R.E Edition.
