10 Tips for a Healthy Travel


Planning a trip to a beautiful destination for pleasure or business? Changing environment can easily derail your health and fitness regime. It’s easy to fall into the trap of eating high calorie meals because you want to taste some different food from the ones you have been eating. Or doing little or no exercise because you are on a vacation or been busy because you have been attending business meetings. Health is wealth and that should be your number one priority. With a little research and some smart packing you will be on your way to the healthiest trip of your life.
These healthy travel tips will keep you in optimal health both when you are aboard the plane and once you reach your destination. Read on and you won’t regret that trip to a new country.

Research the food upon your arrival
The more you can research on the kinds of food in that country upon your arrival the better. This will enable you to find a better grocery store and stock up in the fridge if you have one in your hotel room. Knowing the country very well will also give you an advantage as you will have an easier time finding healthy options for eating in and out.

Keep your breakfast and lunches healthy
Just because you are on a vacation or on a business trip doesn’t mean you should be eating junks. If you have the capacity to make some of your meals, you can have control over your choices of food which can help you stay on track and in shape. Even if you don’t have access to a fridge or kitchen, you can still find some healthy package options that can make meals.

Get as much sleep as you can
Even when you are on the plane try as much as possible to get some sleep before you land. Sometimes it is hard to adjust to a new time zone, because of the changes. It is important to try to get at least 7 or 8 hours of sleep every night. Sometimes work and play can get in the way, but if you make it a priority, you can achieve your sleep goals. Adequate sleep helps your immune system stay strong and promotes recovery, so prioritize accordingly!

Always visit a fitness gym
Try to find a gym at your new destination or even visit the gym at the hotel you are lodging in. Some fitness institutions allow free drop-ins for visitors. Not only is it a great way to maintain your exercise routine while travelling, it will help you to stay in shape, feel strong, look younger and also get to connect with new people. Who knows? You might make lifelong friends or even get a partner.

Stay hydrated
Staying hydrated is key to feeling your best. Make sure you always have a bottle of water with you. It is recommended that we drink 8 glasses of water per day. If you are exercising, it is very important that you drink water in between because you will sweat and it means water is coming out from your body. Or while going on a tour to a new place and you are headed to somewhere hotter or more humid that your usual climate, make sure that you have bottles of water with you.

Pack meals and snacks
Avoid unhealthy, greasy and processed food while travelling, by packing your own meals and snacks. But you need to be careful because some airports can restrict you from taking in food to their country. Make sure that you find out by doing research of what they do allow into their country. If you have favourite packaged snacks like protein bars, nuts or dried fruits, you can stash some in your luggage. Bringing healthy food from home ensures you know exactly what goes into your body and prevents you from spending money on food that doesn’t taste good.

Walk everyday
You can decide to ditch a taxi and use your legs. Exploring our destinations on foot is an amazing way to sneak in some exercise while travelling. Grab a map, take a walk, take in the new sights, and take in the smells and sounds of where you are. Depending on where you travel to, you might want to enlist on a travel guide to be your walking buddy to guide you so that you don’t get lost or even get into any danger.

Rent a bike to go touring
Cover more ground while torching calories by renting a bike. You can check in a shop if they rent a bike so that you can get one for yourself. Grab a map, pack a picnic box and start exploring while riding. If you are travelling for fun, be rest assured that you will experience new things before you get back home.

Plan ahead for special dietary needs
If you have food allergies, print a list of your dietary needs so that you can easily communicate your requirements to the person in the restaurant. You need to do this in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle while you are on vacation. Sometimes the staff will be so eager to please their customers by serving them sweet meal or what they think will be delicious without fully understanding the implications.

Make your own workouts
If you don’t want to spend your money by enrolling in a gym, make your own workout! How? It is very simple. You can decide to use your room by spreading an exercise mat on the floor and do sit ups, press up, bench press among others.
