The beautiful and serene ancient city of Sokoto came alive
with the presence of top government officials, top dignitaries, loved ones,
friends, families and well-wishers who gathered to honour the Hon. Speaker, Rt.
Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, during his turbaning ceremony as the Mutawalle of Sokoto. The occasion
was indeed a big one and something that will not fade any time soon in the
minds of the Sokoto people. The turbaning ceremony which took place at the
Palace of the Sultan of Sokoto pulled a mammoth crowd from within and outside
the shores of Nigeria. The traditional title of the ‘’Mutawalle of Sokoto’’
signifies ‘’Trust’’. Obviously, the Hon. Speaker got the trust of His Eminence,
Alh. Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto, and the full trust of the people of Sokoto generally. Hon.
Aminu Tambuwal, who is the holder of the number four position in the country,
became the fourth person in the history of the seat of the Caliphate to clinch
the prestigious title, thus meeting the expectation that his name Aminu (the
trustworthy) suggests. The seat of the Mutawalle of Sokoto had, for some time,
remained vacant since the year 2011, when the third Mutawalle of Sokoto, Engr.
Ahmadu Dogon Daji, an administrator and one time secretary of the Sokoto State
Government died. The ceremony which was graced by the bigwigs of Nigeria, took
off at the resident of the Hon. Speaker, and thereafter proceeded to the Sultan’s
Palace for the main
ceremony. After the proper turbaning ceremony, there was a lunch and thereafter
a dinner party held in honour of the new Mutawallen Sokoto. It was indeed a
wonderful day of celebration for the new Mutawallen Sokoto and the people of
Sokoto. As usaual, Tozali, the eyeliner Magazine was there to capture the
beautiful highlights of the memorable events. Flip through our glossy pages and
give your eyes a feast!
