The warning signs of
breast cancer are not the same for all women. But there are some signs that are
common to every woman. Most of these common signs are: a change in the look or
a feel of the breast, a change in the look or feel of the nipple and a
discharge in the nipple.
Everyone’s breasts are
different, and your breast can change with age and at different times of the
month. It is important to get to know how your breasts normally look and feel
so it will be easier to spot if there are any unusual changes on your breast.
If you do spot any unusual changes on your breasts you should get them checked
out by your doctor. Sometimes change that seems normal can be sign of cancer;
the key is to pay attention to your body so that you can notice when something
is wrong or different with your breast. Finding out about breast cancer signs
or symptom can help you understand what breast changes to look out for on your
breasts, it is important to be breast cancer aware so that you can know when
there are any changes in your breast and also get to know what is normal and
abnormal. Lumps are vital to look out for and for many women the first sign of
breast cancer is a lump in the breast. But many women have breast lumps and
most of them are not cancerous. It is however advisable to take note of the
breast lumps if they appear to be different and abnormal, it is best to have
them checked by a doctor.
The earlier breast cancer
is found or noticed, the better the chances of treating it at early stage. So
it is important to be breast cancer aware. Being breast cancer aware simply
means knowing what your breasts look and feel like normally, being on the
lookout for any unusual changes and getting them checked out by your doctor.
No one knows your body
better than you and everyone will have their own way of touching and looking
for changes since there are no special techniques or method and you don’t need
any special training on that. It is good to get into the habit of doing a self
examination regularly, maybe when you are in the bathroom or while getting
dressed in front of the mirror in the morning before stepping out of the house.
Experts are not definitely
sure what causes breast cancer, but most people affected by the disease are
older women. Over 80% of all female who suffer from breast cancer are women
from the age of 50 years and above after menopause. Another factor can be
genetic factor, women who have close relative who has had breast or ovarian
cancer are more likely to develop breast cancer. If two close family members
develop the disease, it does not necessarily mean they shared the genes that
make them more vulnerable, because breast cancer is a relatively common cancer
and the majority of breast cancers are not hereditary.
Some common early warning
signs and symptoms you should always look out for are;
A lump in one or both
breasts
A pain in the armpits or
breast that does not seem to be related to women's menstrual period.
Pitting or redness of the
skin of the breast like the skin of an orange
A rash around or on one of
the nipples
An area of thicken tissue
in the breast.
One of the nipples has a
discharge, sometimes it may contain blood.
The size or the shape of
the breast changes
The nipple skin or breast
skin may have started to peel, scale or flake.
