A host of factors determine can decide an actor's value including box office success, relevance, talent and mainstream strength. A lot of actors and actresses in the Hausa movie industry have carved a niche and distinctly proven that they are good in what they are do.

Our top five Kannywood actors of 2017 are talented actors who have remained relevant, maintained or created a mainstream appeal.

1. Rahama Sadau
Rahama Sadau has quickly become one of Kannywood's biggest and most in-demand actresses in the last one year. Ever since her ban from featuring in Kannywood movies because she appeared in a music video, the beautiful actresses has proven that she can’t be stopped.

In 2017, she featured in "Ajuwaya," "Hakkunde," "Accidental Spy," "Tatu" and the EbonyLife TV series "Sons of the Caliphate." She also produced her first movie titled "Rariya," which won the Best Kannywood award at the City People Movie Awards.

2. Maryam Yahaya
For her role in "Mansoor,"  Maryam Yahaya brought an exceptionally sweet touch to the character that would have been lost in anyone else’s care.

Her performance garnered a lot of public applause.  The actress has successfully followed through on that acclaim with an array of movies in the Northern part of Nigeria and it is this talent and consistency that earned her a spot on this list.

3. Ali Nuhu
Ali Nuhu has continued to  prove his versatility,  featuring in successful drama, comedy and action films such as "Ojukokoro," "Banana Island Ghost" and "Hakkunde."

He also produced and directed the top Kannywood movie "Mansoor," which
premiered in cinemas in June.

4. Maryam Booth
In 2017, the actress featured in successful Kannywood and Nollywood movies such as "Rariya,""Hakkunde," and the EbonyLife TV series "Sons of the Caliphate."

The actress coasts through her mainstream and Indigenous roles with ease whilst showcasing her talent.

5.  Yakubu Mohammed Currently on one of the most successful Nigerian TV series "Sons of the Caliphate," Mohammed delivers his character with an endearing charisma that makes him peculiar. Mohammed follows up this success with a role in the anticipated star-studded movie "Lion Heart," which pairs him opposite Genevieve Nnaji, Kanayo O Kanayo, Pete Edochie, Onyeka Onwenu among others.

He also features as Barde in the anticipated Izu Ojukwu movie "Amina," which is loosely drawn from the journey of the legendary fierce Warrior, Queen Amina, who ruled Zaria for 34 years.
