The Yobe State Police Command has paraded a 30-year-old Muhammad Isa Adamu for allegedly killing his girlfriend in Damaturu, the state capital. The police commissioner, Abdumaliki Sunmonu, while parading the suspect at the command headquarters said that the suspect was apprehended by his men and has confessed to having committed the murder.
"In his confessional statement, Adamu said that he had invited the deceased, Hauwa Muhammad, to a location behind Ruwasa area and when she arrived, he asked her to close her eyes but unknown to her, he had a knife; he removed the knife and slit her throat before taking her body to where it was eventually found" the CP said.
The CP said that the suspect, who lived in Shehu Duguri area, Potiskum town, was the deceased’s boyfriend for a relationship that lasted about three years before the sad incident happened on May 29, 2018.
Fielding question from newsmen, the suspect admitted to have committed the offence under the influence of drugs. Adamu said that he started dating Hauwa in 2014 but he tried convincing his parents to consummate their marriage without success.
"Eventually, another guy started dating her and that was the beginning of our problem. She told me that if my family could not make arrangements to meet hers, I should allow the other guy to do the needful. I didn't know what happened to me; I took a drug,' Exol' and decided to end the life of both of us," he revealed.
