Whether we love or hate it,
leggings are interesting outfit that are here to stay and, like other fashion
accessories such as shoes and dresses, they have managed to find their way into
every girl’s wardrobe. Personally, I love
leggings. When worn right, they can look beautiful and fashionable; worn wrong,
they can be shabby and, at times, indecent. Let’s get one thing straight,
leggings may be a versatile piece of any woman’s wardrobe, but not every woman
understands and knows how to wear them properly. Leggings are meant to be worn
as part of a layered outfit. It’s hard to pull off a fashionable look if you
wear leggings as a pair of pants, instead of as a pair of tights under other
clothings. By mixing and matching colours and choosing the right shoes,
leggings can be worn in any season and at any time. Let’s start with a process
of elimination, friends. Leggings are not pants or tights. They are wonderful
in so many ways, including their ability to blend style and comfort in one
clothing item. But they are not, under any circumstances, considered pants.
They also are not office attire; for that we have plenty of smart on-trend
looks to choose from. Nor are leggings to be worn as tights under dresses.
Follow these steps to make sure you are wearing your leggings stylishly:
FIND A PERFECT SIZE: Don’t wear leggings that are too
tight or too loose. Your leggings should be tight enough to cover your legs,
but not so tight that people can see every dimple in your legs. Make sure that
they aren’t so loose that they start to bunch over your legs, because that
isn’t very flattering either. Though you can wear leather leggings, they tend
to be less forgiving and can bunch and cause unflattering line on some body
types. Mix it up. Now that we have cleared that up, let’s see how amazing and
interesting leggings are in their own advantage. You can wear them with a
bottom-down long shirt belted around the waist and ankle, or with high boots
and a long blazer. This is a sharp and classy look, yet very free and
comfortable.
PAIR YOURS LEGGINGS WITH A NICE TOP: It’s safe to proclaim
that tops should, in almost all cases, be long enough to cover the buttocks
when wearing leggings. If you wear a fancy top, it can help play up your
leggings and make them look more fancy and appropriate. Here are some tops that
you can wear over the leggings: wear a well-tailored jacket over a simple shift
dress and pair it with cotton leggings. Also you can wear a loose top and a
solid-colour skirt with your leggings. Make sure the skirt doesn’t fall too
high above your knee to avoid looking too provocative. The loose top should be
fancy enough to tie the whole look together. Most rules in fashion can be broken
by someone who knows what she is doing, but generally speaking, yes, it’s much
more flattering to pair leggings with a long top. If you must wear them alone,
try to find leggings that are as thick as Jeggings or
something close to jeans so that they give you a more compact look. You don’t
want everyone to see your buttocks bounce, as you shouldn’t be subjected to
witnessing theirs.
THE LENGTH OF IT MATTERS: leggings should fall just above the
ankle; anything shorter automatically creates a stinted silhouette by cutting
you off at the skin. Make sure your leggings are long enough. You may have
looked perfect in your perfect black leggings once upon a time, but after
you’ve run them through the wash about a hundred times, you may have noticed
that they rise a few inches above your ankles. When you notice this unpleasant
phenomenon, it’s time to save those leggings for days when you won’t be
stepping out of the house.
WEAR BRIGHT AND BOLD COLOURS: A few words about colourful and
print leggings: As fun as they are, they are really only flattering on long-lean
legs. Darker leggings are more flattering on most bodies. As a rule, stick with
black and charcoal. You should also consider your foot wear when wearing
leggings. Leggings can look tacky with the wrong footwear. Flat boots or a low
heel would be preferable. Wear those shoes that complement the leggings.
Sandals look great with leggings but aren’t acceptable for most work places.
Avoid sandals in a professional work environment, especially with leggings,
which will look even more casual. Pair the leggings with low or high black
boots. Also you can pair them with close-toed shoes with a little bit of a heel.
ENDEAVOUR TO WASH YOUR LEGGINGS: Seriously, leggings need to be
washed regularly. The elasticity relaxes as you heat up and the washing helps
it to go back to normal. Leggings are partially or totally synthetic and so
they don’t breathe as well, and they do need to be washed at least every other
wear. But they don’t need to be hand-washed to keep them looking their best. I
would suggest a delicate bag so they don’t get stretched around in a machine,
and avoid any form of heat (hot water, warm dryer, iron or steam), because heat
breaks down the elasticity over time.
CONSIDER THE OCCASION YOU ARE GOING FOR: Generally speaking, it’s
best to avoid wearing leggings for a job interview or holiday parties, and
formal settings like a wedding or meeting the parents for the first time, advices
St Martin. Since there is always an asterisk to every rule in fashion, if you
can make the rest of your outlook work around your leggings, then go for it.
Honestly, someone with a great eye can probably style them in a way that they
can be worn anywhere, but it’s really tricky. And finally, don’t wear coloured
underwear even if you are wearing a long top. You are able to see it through
your leggings if they are cotton. Teens, leggings and a long top that covers
your buttocks, a cute scarf, plus neutral coloured boots are a great laid back
outfit for school, just switch the scarf for some long necklaces for a night
out. You should make sure your shirt covers your buttocks, particularly if you
are wearing leggings to work. Make sure your black leggings haven’t faded to
grey. If they have, don’t wear them for any occasion, and just save them for
housework.
